Living by the tagline "Move More, Live More!", Active Launceston boasts an impressive set of sporty stats: 246 community programs, engaged 13,644 attendees, attending 37,716 sessions, amounting to 45,148.5 hours of physical activity (updated 12 December 2022). The City of Launceston is proud to support Healthy Tasmania to deliver the Active Launceston initiative providing our residents with free options to stay healthy and be connected.
You don't have to be an olympian, you don't have to be a runner, you don't have to be anything except willing and interested to move your body and have fun!
We all come to any kind of movement or exercise with our own motivations; could be for the community and friendship, the blood flow, the huffy puffy, the fresh air, a break from the screen, the new experience, the muscles, the active wear...
We also might bring our own hesitations; what if I look silly, what if I fall over, what if everyone is faster or more coordinated than me? I'm no stranger to such thoughts, but I never (ever!) regret going out, whether it's for an ambitious routine sweaty bush walk with my tenacious dog Bernie, a stroll and a coffee in the sun with a girlfriend, or something a little more challenging (you might find me at an Active Launceston event).

Active Launceston offers all kinds of great free sessions + programs for everyone of all abilities and ages. Click here to see their range.

You might know by now that it's not my style to dwell on the negatives, but to highlight positives and pave ways forward. It's also not my style to shy away from hard truths: more than half of Australians don't participate in daily exercise (30 mins). Exercise combats so many of the things that ail us as individuals and as communities. Join in! If you do, I will! See you there!
